about this exhibition
“In the Mind’s Eye: Landscapes of Cuba” was a compelling exhibition hosted by the
Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University in Miami, Florida, from September 24, 2022, to January 15, 2023. Curated by Amy Galpin, the exhibition explored how Cuban and U.S. artists from the mid-19th to early 20th centuries depicted Cuba’s landscapes, reflecting political, social, and ideological shifts in both nations. Featuring works by artists such as Winslow Homer, Childe Hassam, and contemporary figures like Juana Valdés and Carlos Martiel, the exhibition offered a multifaceted view of Cuba’s natural and cultural environment. An accompanying bilingual catalogue provided further insights into the artworks and themes presented.
